Home Sweet Home!! Someday……

Lately I have been wanting to downsize our home and move to the country to raise cute little Chinese babies and sweet mama chickens.  Okay so you’re probably asking yourself what is this crazy girl talking about, right?  Seriously I can see our family living in a place like this.  In some remote mountain hideaway, spending more quality time with each other.  Playing board games with the kids, having picnics on the lawn, feeding my chickens organic bird feed. Anything but doing laundry and picking up after people!  In a house this small it would be easy and take all of 5 minutes and then I would have more time to just breath and relax.  Just breath….  Is this normal for a busy mother of 2 to want a simpler way of life?

“Living off the grid rocks” I always say.  My husband would say, “you’re not serious are you?”  Well what if I was?  I mean I could certainly live with much less and I’m sure my family could to!!  I believe people in America need “stuff” to fill their empty lives, not realizing that their lives are already overflowing with free stuff.  You just have to look around and it’s there at absolutely no cost to you.  The birds chirp out a song for free.  The oak trees dance in the wind for free.  The stream is perfect for cooling toes for free.  The bees make sweet amber honey for free.  The flowers smell like heaven for free.  A child’s smile is absolutely priceless and will melt your heart!  All this for free and you don’t have to buy a thing.

Someday my family will understand the importance of living without the need for more stuff to clutter their minds but until that day comes I will gaze upon these photos taped to our widescreen television, laptop computer, I-pad touch and subzero refrigerator to remind me to simply live.

Where Does The Time Go?

May 11th, 2010

emily2.jpg

Last week was our nine month anniversary of our newest member of of our family.  Our little Miss. Emily is now 26 months old and growing by leaps and bounds.  She is truly the love of our lives!!  She continues to amaze us with her joy for life.  She is talking now and learning new words everyday!!  Of course her favorite word is “Mommy” and “No!”

This year we celebrated Chinese New Year with little Miss. Emily and her friends.  We had lots of yummy Chinese food that our neighbors brought over and I even made an alter with offerings for Emily’s ancestors.  It was a wonderful day and we’re already planning for next year’s celebration!!  At the end of the party our friends gave all the children lucky red envelops full of money and even Ethan got one too.  You should have seen how big his eyes got!!  Needless to say…. he loves Chinese New Year!!!

Since we’ve been home

October 21st, 2009

em.jpg

For the past 68 days our lives have been filled with so much joy.  We have been busy with our newest member of our family, Miss. Emily Jane.  For the first 3 weeks we have lived our life in a complete blur and short on pictures to prove it.  We have had many colds, infections, teething pain and trips to the doctors and now 68 days later I am updating my blog.

We have enjoyed having Emily home with us and it truly seems like she has been a part of our family forever!!  She was definitely worth the wait and every tear that was shed in our long 3 1/2 year wait.  When she pats my face and looks deep in my eyes my heart just melts and I am over come with the emotions I have for her.  I can’t describe the love I know we all share for her.  When she runs up to her big brother and hugs him around his legs just melts our hearts.  When she falls asleep in her daddy’s arms or the way she stomps her little feet when mommy doesn’t get her bottle fast enough, it feels like a dream that she is finally here.

Cooking with Boys

June 27th, 2009

tandpup.jpg

Today we had a play date with one of Ethan’s friends. The boys got restless after about 30 minutes of playing and I suggested making some play dough and their eyes got really wide and they got all excited! I was so happy because boys don’t seem to be much into cooking these days. I asked them if they wanted to wear my new aprons and they both excitedly said yes, only thing that was missing was the tall white hats that would have been just too cute!!

Happy Father’s Day!!

A Wonderful Father’s Day!!

jim1.jpg

Things are moving really fast!! We just found out we have travel dates for end of July!!  We are so excited, such a wonderful way to spend Father’s day!!  Packing & paperwork is how we will spend the first week off school.  After that is finished I’m sure we will spend some fun time at the pool!!

ethan-and-jim.jpg

mejim3.jpg

Jim’s new sushi bar was a big hit this year- the best Father’s day ever!!  Score one for mom!!

fly.jpg

I really love this photograph Jim snapped on Father’s Day!!  He said this will be us in about 5 weeks but I still don’t believe it, I mean I know we’re leaving at the end of the month and all but I can’t really believe it.  I don’t think it’s really going to happen, or someone will call us and say, sorry you’re travel group has been delayed.  I seem to be walking around these day’s in a complete fog, way worse than when I was pregnant with Ethan!!  I don’t think it will hit me until we are in China and then look out!!  I will probably start crying about not having the right kind of baby nail clipper’s or crying and not knowing why on earth I am.  It is the most amazing and wonderful time right now in our lives and we are soaking up every minute of this incredible journey!!

Waiting for our TA’s!!

June 18th, 2009

ethan.jpg

I hate waiting, telling everyone that we could get our travel approvals any day!! This is the worst part, knowing of our little girl and not being able to hold her.  We are all trying to stay busy these last few days…  Jim’s graduation party, baby shower for Emily, end of school year stuff & packing for our trip.

She has the most sweetest little face I’ve ever seen and we are all so in love with her!!  Last week we sent a gift to her from Ann at the Red Thread China!!  Her gift included a small disposable camera and we are hoping to get a few more pictures of her before she leaves.  Her package also included squeaky shoes, a blanket, candies for her aunties & a outfit.  I’ll be glad when this is all behind us and we can be a new family of four!!  We love you sweetie and can’t wait to meet you!!

We have new photos of our little girl!!

June 5th, 2009

Yesterday, on our 15 year anniversary, we receive more good news about our little girl!!  And four new photos of her, just out of the blue.  I honestly didn’t think we would get any new ones until we traveled to China and held her in our arms!!  She is now 14 months old in this picture and has 5 teeth!! We are hoping to have travel arrangement made next week!!

April 2nd, 2009

deskemily.jpg

On Tuesday March 31, 2009 at 9:52 am we got the call we have been waiting for!!  We have a beautiful baby girl waiting for us in China!!  She is absolutely the most adorable baby ever and we are beyond excited! We would travel in the next few months meet her and I honestly have no idea where to begin but the wonderful folks at our adoption agency are very helpful and will take care of most of the details. We just have to go bring her home!!  We have exciting news now worth writing about so check back, I’ll be posting lots more news in the coming days!!  We submitted our LOI (Letter of Intent) the day after our referral came.  Now we just have to wait for our PA (Pre-Approval) that we will receive in approximately two weeks.

desktopemily.jpg

Correction, we just received our Pre-Approval yesterday after only 1 week!!  We are all so excited and it seems like we are just running around like crazy trying to get things lined up to bring her home soon!  Home study on Saturday, shots on Friday, more paperwork mailed out yesterday, re-fingerprints ???

Merry Christmas!!

December 2nd, 2008

We had a wonderful time this year a time filled of firsts!  The first time in a long time we’ve actually stayed home for Christmas, first time we’ve chopped down a Christmas tree and hopefully this will be the last holiday without little Emily!!  We didn’t get much snow this year but it was still fun playing outdoors and drinking hot chocolate with the neighbors.  I’m already looking forward to spring however.  Ethan absolutely loves winter, go figure.

Home from Rome!!

August 3rd, 2008

us3.jpg

We are back home after spending an entire week in Italy for my birthday.  I have to say hands down it was the best birthday of my entire life!!  Rome is the most amazing and place I have ever been and I would definitely like to visit again!!  I think the trip was hard on Ethan though, he missed all the cool American kid shows and he couldn’t understand why no one spoke English, well very well.  I had to remind him that our driver spoke 7 different languages fluently and that English is only one of thousands of different languages in the world.  We took alot of pictures that I hope to have posted by the end of summer.

Oh how I loved being inside the Pantheon!!  We didn’t get to stay long enough as we had a private tour of all the major sights on our second day in the city, but when we go back we will spend the entire day here.  It is very close to the Trevar Fountain.

Ethan & I planted this out front of our house, to bad I can’t remember what the heck it’s called.  It’s not doing to well now in the heat of summer.  I’ve tried everything, fertilizer, extra water…… help!!!

How time flies!!

May 4th, 2008

It’s hard to believe its May already!!  Time is flying by and before you know it it’ll be my birthday.  No, not just any birthday, but my 40th!!!  I’m actually looking forward to it this year, believe it or not.  Okay so I decided I wanted to do something really big for this one.  Not just another trip to Disney World or the beach but something extraordinary.  So we all drew straws and decided to go to Rome, Italy for my Birthday!!  We are all so excited and can’t wait to travel to a foreign country!!  I have really wanted to do this for quite sometime now.  Reading everything I can get my hands on and writing down all the places we shall see!!  So much to do and so little time, I’m hoping we’ll have this trip all sorted out and booked before next week, wish me luck! Oh and by the way, finish painting the house, planting my flowers, working 2 jobs, and taking care of my two boys……. no wonder time flies!  Life is grand!  Sorry Gracy you’ll have to stay home but we will miss you!!

Wishing everyone a very happy May day!!  Don’t forget to leave your little basket of flowers for someone special at their door……  Does anyone do this anymore? Or is that just a thing of the past?  Well it was fun when my sisters and I did it back in the day!!

Lunch in the City

April 27th, 2008

meandethan.jpg

Today was nice and sunny so we decided to drive into the city to visit family and have lunch outdoors and a quick play at the park.  We didn’t get home until well after dark but we were all having way to much fun to drive home.

The American Indian Museum

April 12th, 2008

ethananddad.JPG

We finally made it into the city to visit the American Indian Museum.  What a wonderful place, everyone should visit it at least once when they are in D.C. but just one word of warning the cafeteria is really really expensive!!  When we go again I’m going to pack a picnic for everyone and eat before we go inside!!  They had lots of outdoor seating too so everything would have been grand be great but 50 bucks for a few little snacks was just plain crazy but we still had a great time!!

Signs of Life!

April 5th, 2008

 ethan21.JPG

Today was really warm outside so we decided to go for a nice long bike ride through the neighborhood and then on the way back home we decided to pick up all the trash at the stream next to our house.  The wind blows all the new construction junk everywhere all winter long and ends up in the wetlands reserved for living creatures ONLY!!  Check out what we found in one of the cardboard boxes when I pulled it from the stream.  Ethan was so freaked out he wouldn’t come within 100 yards of me.  I finally convinced him to let me just take a picture of him next to the stream only if I put it in an old flower pot (that was also found in the stream).  I guess it didn’t help any that I told him people eat’em!  Poor kid!!

Baby it’s cold outside!!

April 3rd, 2008

newslipper.JPG

Lately these days all I’ve been doing is sewing & cleaning (oh ya and working at the school).  Unfortunately It’s still  to cold and windy to venture outdoors to play.  Normally this time of year I would be planting flowers and adding mulch to the yard and basking in the warm sunshine but it’s only in the 50’s and it’s just to cold to do anything but stay indoors with a nice cup of tea and my favorite slippers.  On the upside though I did finished a bunch of cute t-shirt skirts and 4 or 5 really cute tops.  I’ll get around to posting those pics very soon but for now I must crank up the furnace before I freeze to death!!

Ethan’s Big Day!!

March 29th, 2008

ethan3.JPG

Ethan turned the big 10 today and we celebrated the day with a quick swing, laser tag, lunch and a trip to the ice cream shop with our family!  Seems like just yesterday we were at the hospital in the delivery room, it was so warm and beautiful that day!!

I’m ready for spring!

March 21st, 2008

It’s cold and windy and I’m freezing!!  I can’t wait for warmer weather!!  Ethan & I are going out shopping tomorrow, if it warms up a bit.  Maybe a trip back to “Ross Dress-for-Less” would lift my spirits!  Well I received more “Sqwishes” in the mail today.  Ethan and I counted 25!!  We’re only 1/4 of the way there for our “100 Good Wishes” quilt for little Emily!!  We’ve received so many cute ones indeed!  I’m going to try and take some more pictures of them tomorrow and post them on my site!!

We LOVE the beach!!

March 18th, 2008

new.JPG

We made it to the beach today, it was the most incredible thing to witness.  It’s amazing to experience something so wonderful in all different seasons of the year.  Springtime at the beach, the air is crisp and clean.  The beach is calm and deserted, the greatest time to find solitude and reflect on the past year. (we stayed about 5 min. and froze our butts off and ran back to the car!!)  It was still fun though but we still love summer time at the beach when we can swim and soak up the sun and play all day long.  We’ll be back in June when it’s about 90 deg. out!!

Oh Happy Spring!!

March 16th, 2008

We are all so excited to welcome spring this year, I think we’ve all had a bad case of Cabin Fever. What with Easter being a whole week sooner that last year, we haven’t celebrated on this day since 1913, well not us personally but you get it. The zipper was apparently invented and the 16 amendment was ratified to collect income tax. We can’t wait to enjoy a wonderful Easter meal with the family and dress up in our Sunday best for church! I bought the perfect dress last week at Ross!!

Well enough about that….. we finally made it back to the beach, first time this year, and boy is it cold!! No one is here yet, well not if you count the “green looking” drunk people, but other than that all the shops are either closed up tight or just starting to set up for the summer.  We found only one miniature golf place, “Lost Treasure” open between here and Ocean City, but at least my favorite restaurant Phillips is open! Last night we ventured out to the boardwalk for about 30 minutes to check out the beach but it was cold and not much happening. Maybe later on in the week they’ll be more exciting, we hope!!  The picture is of me and Ethan at the Candy Kitchen were I found my TY Girlz for Miss Emily.  I keep calling them my dolls, they are really cute and I really want to get a few more!

Good Wishes!!

We are so happy to finally have a place where we can write about our adoption and post lots of pictures. I hope to have more up soon so please check back.

Sisters are forever

October 8th, 2007

It’s been almost one year since we’ve been logged in!! Found this today and it really made my day that much brighter!!! We finished up last Saturday with our big family yard sale, yippy!! So tomorrow I am starting on Emily’s room. Hopefully I can have it completed before Lauren arrives for our home study update next week. I’ll have lots of photo’s to post!! I have decided to paint her room in two different shades of pink with a little white dot border around in the middle. My neighbor did the same thing for her baby and it looked so cute!! Except she used two different shades of pale green. Oh and I found the cutest crib and changing table at Target!!  When I look at this picture I think of Emily & her sister!! Oh and maybe a little brother thrown in for good luck lol!! Poor Jim & Ethan… the longer it takes to get little Emily the more babies I want to adopt!!  Four’s not too many is it guys?!

First day of school

September 5th, 2007

Ethan’s first day of school. Ethan was so excited about going back to school he couldn’t even sleep the night before so he was a bit sleepy this morning!! School is going great for him and he’s is doing very well!! Nine boys at our stop, no girl…. the boys like it like that now but in a few years they might change their minds!

Birthday at the beach!!!!

July 22nd, 2007

This summer was great!! We went to Ocean City, MD for my birthday and had a total blast!!  I had the best one yet!!  Jim took us out to eat at my favorite little restaurant “Phillips Seafood” and I had steamed clams and clam chowder, yum. We’re looking for a place to buy so we can stop bugging our friend to use his beach house.  Who knows maybe he will just let us buy his!!  I am totally in love with it and it has everything we need.  And the best part is it’s only 5 minutes from the beach!!

I can’t wait to go back already.  Something that everyone traveling to Ocean City has to check out is the Ripley’s believe it or not.  It’s totally amazing stuff I tell ya!  They had a very large piece of the Wall and this really cool rotating tube thingie that you could walk threw and it would feel like you might fall over at any moment.  I would totally go again but maybe spend a bit more time really reading everything and not just rushing threw like my hubby and 9 year old wanted to do.   I would love to visit the aquarium next time we’re in town though.

Finding pictures like this totally makes my day! This is how China teaches their darling babies to swim! Oh how I do love China!! I wonder if Emily will know how to swim when she comes home. Now if I could only find a picture of how they toilet train their babies (they don’t have dippers in China, they use split pants.) It’s the cutest thing you’ve ever seen. Strange….. but cute.
